2.12% decrease in cement sales in the country

KARACHI: According to All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, cement sales in November 2023 decreased by 2.12% to 3.924 million tons compared to 4.0099 million tons of cement sold in November last year.

According to the data, domestic sales of cement in the month of November 2023 stood at 3.262 million tonnes as against 3.862 million tonnes, which shows a decrease of 15.53%.

Meanwhile, a significant increase of 348.29% was recorded in the export of cement and in November 2023, the export of cement was 6 lakh 62 thousand 374 tons compared to 1 lakh 47 thousand 757 tons in November last year.

During the first five months of this financial year, the total sales of cement (including local and export) was 19.816 million tons, which was 10.81% more than the sales of 17.883 million tons in the same period of the previous financial year. 16.688 million tons with an increase of 2.04% compared to tons.

During July-November 2023, the export of cement increased by 104.60% to 3.129 million tons, which was 1.529 million tons in the same period of the previous financial year. According to the spokesperson of All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, Excel Load is being implemented from November 1 without consulting the stakeholders.

This move will have a significant impact on the cost of transportation of cement and coal and other raw materials. This situation will lead to increasing inflationary pressure which is likely to increase the cost of cement by double digits. The spokesman urged the government to implement the axle load in a phased manner over the next two to three years. The axle load ban is expected to lead to shortage of trucks which will cause supply disruption in the market and exports are also likely to be affected.
